Pickup Information
Local Pickup Guide — Lucca
Lucca's historic centre sits entirely within the city walls and is largely restricted to local traffic, so hotel pickups inside the walls are typically arranged at the nearest accessible gate (commonly Porta San Pietro or Porta Santa Maria), with a short walk or luggage assistance to properties just inside. Lucca has no airport of its own — most visitors arrive via Pisa Airport (PSA), around 25 km away and roughly a 30-minute drive, or via Florence, around 80 km away and roughly an hour's drive on the A11. Both are straightforward door-to-door private transfers, and many travellers combine a Pisa Airport arrival with a stop to see the Leaning Tower before continuing to Lucca. Train travellers arriving at Lucca station will find it just outside the southern walls, a short transfer to most central hotels.

Local Tips for Lucca
Unlike most Tuscan hill towns, Lucca is flat — the historic centre is easy walking, and cycling the 4 km ring of the city walls is one of the most popular things visitors do here, with bike rental available right along the ramparts. It makes a relaxed, quieter overnight base compared to Florence, or an easy half-day addition to a Pisa Airport arrival given the short distance between the two. The old town is compact enough to see on foot in a few hours, so a private transfer is most useful for getting to and from Lucca itself — from Pisa Airport, from Florence, or onward into the rest of Tuscany — rather than for getting around inside the walls.
