Look for the Gallo Nero, the Black Rooster seal, which marks authentic Chianti Classico producers and appears on their bottles. It is a reliable sign that you are tasting wine made within the historic zone under its own rules.

One important practical note is that most wineries require tastings and tours to be booked in advance, especially the smaller family-run estates. Turning up unannounced often means a closed gate, so it is well worth reserving your visits before the day.

For a comfortable full day, two or three estates is a realistic and enjoyable number. Each visit typically involves a tasting and often a short cellar or vineyard tour, and trying to fit in more usually leaves everyone feeling rushed rather than relaxed.

Lunch is an easy and pleasant part of the day. Some estates serve food alongside their wines, and there are excellent trattorias in villages like Greve and Panzano. Just let your driver know your preference and we can time the route around it.
